Special Pardon to Gangjeong Residents

The national government executed special pardons ahead of the new year and two Gangjeong residents who have been indicted during the dispute over the construction of a Navy base in Jeju were included.

Out of the 65 special pardons released by Seoul two were Gangjeong residents involved in crimes of social issues.

209 Gangjeong residents who were found guilty of participating in illegal rallies against the establishment of a naval base, proposed special pardon and only two were given.

Seoul expected that the special amnesty given to criminals involved in social issue crimes would lead to coexistence and harmony in society, but some pointed out that the purpose of the special amnesty was diminished , as only two people among activists who were involved in rallies against the establishment of Gangjeong naval base were included.

정부가 새해를 앞두고
특별사면 복권을 단행한 가운데
제주에서는
해군기지 관련 2명이
복권 대상에 포함돼 법률상 자격 제한이 해소됩니다.

정부가 발표한
신년 특별사면 대상에서
사회적 갈등 사건 관련자 65명 가운데
제주해군기지 건설 관련 사건으로
2명이 포함됐습니다.

해군기지 건설 과정에서 기소돼
사법 처리된 주민과 활동가 가운데
사면 건의 대상은 209명으로 집계됐지만
이번 복권에는
단 2명만 포함된 것입니다.

정부는 사회적 갈등 사건 관련자 특별사면으로
상생화 화합의 계기가 될 것으로
기대한다고 밝혔지만
해군기지 관련은 단 2명에 그쳐
특별사면 취지가 후퇴했다는 지적입니다.
