April 3rd Incident Team Established

The provincial government will establish and operate a fact-finding team to take follow-up measures to restore damage to the April 3rd victims and their bereaved families.

The team will be organized with the administration office
and private organizations and will conduct on-site surveys, interviews, check required documents and deal with complaints.

In addition, the team will check whether applicants
are eligible to receive the compensation and figure out the appropriate amount of compensation.
The group will also help applicants who are convicted by military trials
to get the required documents needed for reexamination.

The province will review the final investigation report
and pass the report to the April 3rd Incident working committee.

Application for the compensation will be received in the second half of the year. In the case where the victims of the April 3rd Incident have passed away or are missing, heirs under civil law can claim for the compensation.

'4.3 명예와 피해회복 사실조사단'을 구성해 운영합니다.

사실조사단은 행정과 민간협력조직을 연계해 구성되며
현장조사와 면담, 자료조사, 구비서류 확인,
민원응대 등을 전담하게 됩니다.

특히 민법 상 상속권자 등 청구권자 적격여부와 보상금액 확인.조사,
군사재판 수형인의
직권재심 청구서류 구비를 도와주게 됩니다.

제주도는 사실조사 결과보고서를 최종 검토하고
이를 4.3 실무위원회에 제출하게 됩니다.

보상금 신청은 올 하반기부터 이뤄질 예정이며
4.3 희생자가 사망하거나 행방불명된 경우
현행 민법 상 상속권자들이 보상금을 청구할 수 있습니다.
