Rising Fuel Price

Vehicles at this gas station come and go much the same as they always do, but not without some more concern behind the scenes; customers are very aware of how fuel prices have been inching up over the past weeks.

I’ll take the time to find the cheapest gas station when I can, but when I’m busy, I have to take whatever is nearest. There seems to be a big price difference between gas stations.


Local gasoline prices are increasing again.



In Jeju, they had dipped under the 1,700 won per liter mark since Seoul cut fuel taxes, but, since earlier this month, they’ve been creeping up again.


According to the Korea National Oil Corporation’s Opinet, the average price of a liter of gasoline in Jeju was 1,710 won this Monday.
That’s 30 won higher than last Thursday when it was 1,680 won.


And that’s 63 won/liter higher than the national average of 1,647 won and the second highest after Seoul.


According to the Korea National Oil Corporation, international oil prices hit a seven-year high after a fatal attack on an oil facility in Abu Dhabi by Houthi rebels from Yemen. This has affected oil prices in Korea.


And demand for fuel overall is increasing as economies that have been suppressed by the pandemic slowly return to somewhat normal levels. But, at least in the short term, oil is expected to be in short supply, meaning we’re seeing increases at the pump.

Increasing tensions between Russia and the Ukraine and the easing of the Omicron wave have raised global oil prices. Domestic gasoline prices are expected to be on the rise for the time being.


With the Lunar New Year almost here, rising fuel costs are adding to an already expensive time for many families.




제주 휘발윳값, 다시 1천 700원 대


기름을 넣으려는 차량들이 하나 둘씩 주유소로 들어옵니다.

슬금슬금 올라버린 기름값에
주유를 하면서도
운전자들은 한숨이 절로 나옵니다.

"아무래도 운전을 많이 하는 것 자체가 좀 조심스럽고 가계지출이 많이 늘어나게 되니까. 저희도 요즘에 전기차를 사야 되나 그런 고민도 하거든요."

"지금 저희 입장에서는 안 바쁘면 좀 싼 데로 많이 찾아가고요. 급하면 어쩔 수 없이 주변 주유소를 찾긴 하는데 가격 차이가 좀 많이 나는 것 같아요 주유소마다. 그래서 웬만하면 좀 싼 데를 찾고 있는 입장입니다."



제주 지역 휘발윳 값이 다시 오르고 있습니다.


정부의 유류세 인하 정책 시행 이후
1600원 대로 떨어졌었는데,
올 초부터 다시 조금씩 오르기 시작한 겁니다.


한국석유공사 유가정보서비스인 오피넷에 따르면
제주 지역 평균 휘발윳 값은 리터당 1710원.


지난 20일 1680원보다 30원 올랐습니다.


전국 평균 가격(1647원)과 비교해도
60원 이상 높은 수준으로,
서울에 이어 전국에서 두 번째로 비쌉니다.


한국석유공사에 따르면
최근 예멘 반군이
아랍에미리트 석유시설을 공격하는 등으로 인해
국제 유가가 급등하면서
국내 기름값에도 영향을 준 것으로 보고 있습니다.


코로나로 침체됐던 경제활동이 다시 시작되며
수요가 늘어나고 있는 가운데,
공급량이 이를 따라가지 못하면서
기름값은 당분간 오름세를 보일 전망입니다.

"연초 이후 우크라이나 긴장 사태 구조, 오미크론 확산 완화 등에 따른 국제유가 강세의 영향이며 당분간 현재 국내 휘발유 가격의 상승세가 지속될 것으로 예상됩니다."


설 물가에 이어
유류세 인하 조치로 한동안 내려갔던 기름값까지
덩달아 오르면서
서민들의 부담은 커져만 가고 있습니다.
