Less Newborns than Number of Deaths

Natural decrease of population is shown for the first time in Jeju since records began. The number of newborns in Jeju was less than the number of deaths last year.

According to the National Statistical Office, the number of newborns in 2021 was 3,700.
This is a historic low and Jeju has hit record low for five years in a row.

On the other hand, the number of deaths in Jeju hits 4,200.
This is the first time that Jeju has exceeded 4,000 deaths.

It is also the first time that the number of births is less than the number of deaths in Jeju since records began in 1983.

Total fertility rate, which refers to the average number of children that a woman is expected to have during her lifetime, decreases by 7% compared to last years 0.95 which is the first time that the total fertility rate marks less than one.

관련 통계 작성 이후 처음으로
인구 자연감소가 나타났습니다.

통계청에 따르면, 지난해 도내 출생아 수는 3천 700명으로
5년 연속 역대 최저기록을 경신했습니다.

반면 도내 사망자 수는 4천 200명으로 처음으로 4천명을 넘었습니다.
출생아 수가 사망자 수보다 적은 건 1983년 관련 통계 작성 이후 처음입니다.

여성 한 명이 평생 낳을 것으로 예상되는
합계 출산율은 0.95명으로 전년보다 7% 감소하며
사상 처음 한 명대 아래로 내려갔습니다.
