Fuel Tax Drop Extended by July

Seoul is extending the period of 20% decrease in fuel taxes which was planned to be terminated at the end of April by three months. The central government will also review the possibility of lowering fuel taxes even further if international oil prices rise steeply.

(홍남기) Hong Nam-gi, the Deputy Prime Minister, said during a price stabilization ministerial meeting that the period for the measures of decreasing fuel taxes that was scheduled to end in April will be extended through the end of March to reduce the effects of high oil prices on consumer price levels.

He added that if international oil prices show a steep rise, and economic uncertainty grows, the government will review the plan to further decrease fuel taxes, implying the possibility of additional fuel tax drop.

In addition, Seoul is pushing forward implementing quota tariffs on the items that are facing price and supply instability caused by the Russia-Ukraine War and the government will increase quantities of the items as well.

4월말 종료 예정인 유류세 인하 조치를 7월 말까지
3개월 연장하기로 했다고 밝혔습니다.

이어 국제유가가 현 수준보다 가파르게 상승해
경제 불확실성이 더 확대될 경우
유류세 인하 폭을 확대하는 방안도 검토할 것이라고 말해
추가 인하 가능성도 시사했습니다.

정부는 또 최근 우크라이나 사태 영향 등으로
가격·수급 불안 우려가 있는 품목을 중심으로는
할당관세 적용과 물량 증량도 추진하기로 했습니다.
