Epidemic Diarrhea Outbreak Hits Farms

Officials are reporting a string of outbreaks of porcine epidemic diarrhea.

According to the provincial government, the condition has been confirmed from the end of last month at a hog farm in (성산) Seongsan and the outbreaks have been reported at pig farms in (한림) Hallim and (대정) Daejeong at the beginning of this month.

The porcine epidemic diarrhea causes diarrhea and vomit. Piglets may die with 50% of possibility when they contract PED. In 2014, hog farms in Hallim and Daejeong suffered huge damage from PED.

The provincial office urged hog farmers to vaccinate their pigs and disinfect their farms, as decline in immunity of hogs, caused by recent large ranges of temperature, can induce porcine epidemic diarrhea.



돼지유행성설사병 발생 잇따라…주의보 발령

제주지역에서 양돈농가에 큰 피해를 주는 돼지유행성설사병이
잇따라 발생하고 있습니다.

제주도에 따르면 지난달 말부터 서귀포시 성산지역 양돈농가를 시작으로
이달 초에는 제주시 구좌읍과 한림읍에서 유행성 설사병 발생이 확인됐습니다.

돼지유행성설사병은 구토와 설사 증상을 보이며
새끼돼지의 폐사율이 50%를 넘는 질병으로
지난 2014년 한림읍과 대정읍 일대 양돈농가에 큰 피해를 입혔습니다.

제주도는 최근 일교차가 커지면서
면역 저하로 인해 발생 건수가 급증할 것으로 전망하면서
농가의 백신 접종과 소독 방역을 당부했습니다.
