Yoon Suk-yeol Wins at Neck-and-neck Race

The winner of the unprecedented close race was (윤석열) Yoon Suk-yeol from the conservative People Power Party

Yoon won 48.56 percent of votes while (이재명) Lee Jae-Myung from the Democratic Party of Korea garnered 47.83 percent.
Yoon edged out the rival by 0.7 percentage points, the narrowest margin of victory since the beginning of the constitutional government.
The main opposition party will now hold the reins of government for five years.

However, the election results in Jeju show the opposite.

In Jeju, Lee won 52.59 percent of votes while Yoon garnered 42.69 percent. Lee was nearly 10 percentage points ahead.

The presidential election results in Jeju have been a barometer of nation-wide results. But this formula was broken for the first time.
The No.1 player of presidential candidates has been elected in seven elections since the country adopted a direct presidential election system in 1987.
But it was overturned in 35 years for the first time.

The final turnout in Jeju was 72.6 percent.
The figure is 4.5 percentage points lower than the national average of 77.1 percent.
And this time again, following the previous 19th presidential election, it was disgraced as the lowest in the country.

In the pre-voting held in the first week of this month, Jeju's turnout was 33.78 percent.
That's also below the national average of 36.93 percent and the second lowest following (경기) Gyeonggi Province.

With the 20th president elected after a neck and neck race, attention is paid to what the next government and the island will look like.

윤 당선인의 최종 득표율은 48.5%,
이재명 후보는 47.8%를 기록했습니다.

두 후보간 득표율 차는 0.73%포인트로
헌정 사상 최소 격차를 보이는 초접전을 펼쳤습니다.

5년만에 정권교체가 이뤄지게 됐습니다.

하지만 제주에서의 개표 결과는 달랐습니다.

이재명 후보의 득표율이 52.59%로
윤석열 당선인 42.69%보다 10%포인트 가까이 앞섰습니다.

이로써 제주에서 가장 많은 득표를 한 후보가
대통령에 당선된다는 바로미터 공식은 처음으로 깨졌습니다.

지난 1987년 13대 대선을 시작으로 모두 7차례 선거에서
제주 1위가 대통령에 당선되며
선거의 풍향계로 불려왔지만 35년 만에 뒤집힌 겁니다.

제주지역 최종 투표율은 72.6%로 집계됐습니다.

전국 평균 77.1%보다 4.5% 포인트 낮은 수치로,
지난 19대 대선에 이어 이번에도
전국 최하위의 불명예를 안았습니다.

지난주 실시된 사전투표에서도
제주 투표율은 33.78%로
전국 평균 36.93%를 밑돌며
경기도에 이어 두 번째로 낮았습니다.

초박빙 승부 끝에
