Quarantine Measures at Airport Eased

As part of a plan to ease COVID-19 restrictions, Jeju Province has announced that its special entry procedures have been withdrawn.
It has been a year and a half since Jeju enhanced its border-level quarantine measures by introducing mandatory PCR testing for people with fevers in September 2020.

Now, new arrivals who show COVID-like symptoms will be asked to have their temperatures checked and to take a PCR test, rather than being required to do so.
All personnel dedicated to body temperature monitoring in the airport's arrival area have been reassigned.

However, the walk-through screening center will remain in operation for the time being.
People with fevers can receive PCR tests at the center.

To minimize confusion about these changes, the province plans to provide on-site guidance for the next two months.
As quarantine measures are gradually lifted, the public's reaction is mixed.

Some say that quarantine measures are no longer useful, so the change is understandable.
But others are voicing concern that at a time when the Omicron wave is nearing its peak, such moves are premature.

I think it's fine to adopt a "With Corona" approach rather than being fearful. The local economy has been badly damaged by the pandemic.

I believe body temperature monitoring is needed at the airport, rather than voluntary testing at home, because the airport is crowded with people. I'm afraid people with COVID-19 symptoms will visit Jeju.

As for people arriving from overseas, those who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to self-isolate beginning March 21st, in accordance with national guidelines.



제주형 특별입도절차 폐지…자율 검사 전환


제주도가
코로나19 방역 완화의 일환으로
제주형 특별입도절차를 폐지하기로 했습니다.

국경 수준의 차단 방역을 강조하며
지난 2020년 9월 발열 이상자에 대한
PCR 검사를 의무화한 지 1년 반 만입니다.

앞으로는
입도객들에 대한 발열 감시와
의심 증사자에 대한 PCR 검사가
권고 수준의
자발적 검사 체계로 전환됩니다.

이에 따라 공항 도착장에 배치됐던
발열 감시 전담 인력도 모두 철수했습니다.

다만 제주공항 워크스루 선별진료소는 당분간 그대로 유지됩니다.

발열 검사에서 의심 증상자들은
현행대로 선별진료소에서 PCR 검사를 받을 수 있습니다.

제주도는
방역 완화에 따른 혼란을 최소화하기 위해
오는 5월까지 현장 계도하기로 했습니다.

방역조치가 속속 해제되면서
이에 대한 시민들의 시선은 엇갈리고 있습니다.

방역조치가 더 이상 무의미한 만큼
자연스러운 흐름이라는 시각도 있지만
오미크론 대유행이 정점으로 치닫는 상황에서
시기상조라는 우려의 목소리도 나오고 있습니다.

"발열 검사를 해야 된다고 저는 봐요. 증상 있는 분들 많이 내려오실 거 아닙니까. 자가키트 한다고 해도. 공항은 사람들이 많이 몰리는 곳이라."

한편 정부 지침에 따라 제주에서도
오는 21일부터
백신 접종을 마친 해외 입국자에 대한 자가 격리 의무도 면제됩니다.
