Same-day Delivery Service Suspended

A notice about changes of express delivery service is placed on the wall.

It says that the same-day delivery service of parcels accepted in the morning has been suspended.

Earlier this year, a fire broke out while transporting parcels sent to the mainland from Jeju, and the airline in contract with the Korea Post strengthened its delivery regulations.

Now, it takes more than a day for a parcel and mail to be sent to Seoul, (인천) Incheon, and some parts of (경기) Gyeonggi Province.
Parcels accepted for overnight delivery service in Jeju are being delivered to the mainland after two days.

The same-day express service has been suspended since last week.
Complaints are pouring out.

The island has many deliveries of items that must be sent on the same day, such as fresh food.
Complaints from merchants are strong as their loss is enormous.

Shoppers ask if same-day delivery is available. I answer that there is no more same-day delivery. They give up buying things as late delivery can cause inconveniences.

Many customers come and look at goods and ask me to send it by same-day delivery service or overnight service if same-day service is not available. But overnight service is not available now. It causes much inconvenience.


The Korea Post says that the airline has notified them of the changes in delivery regulations despite multiple consultations, and it is now seeking ways to resume the same-day express service.


However, it is unclear whether same-day service will actually be resumed as most airlines are strengthening delivery regulations.
In the meantime, islanders have to cope with the fallout and inconveniences.



우체국 당일 특급 우편 '중단'…불편 속출

제주지역에서 보낸 우편물을 운송하는 과정에서 화재가 발생해
해당 항공사에서
우편물 취급 규정을 강화한데 따른겁니다.

이제 서울과 인천, 경기도 일부 지역으로
보내는 우편물은
아무리 빨리 보내려 해도 하루 이상 소요됩니다.

익일 특급 서비스 역시 다음날이 아닌 이틀 후에야 배송됩니다.

"신선식품 뿐 아니라 편지 같은 것도 그날 갈 수 있었거든요. 아예 안돼요. 당특(당일 특급) 자체가 없어진 거예요."

지난주부터 시행되고 있는데
현장에서 불만의 목소리가 나오고 있습니다.

특히 지리적 여건 상
신선식품과 같이 당일 보내야 하는 물건 배송이 많은
제주에서는 상당한 불편이 잇따르고 있습니다.

무엇보다 상인들의 손해는 이만저만이 아닙니다.

"당일 택배 돼요? 하니까, 당일 택배 다 없어졌다고 하니까 그럼 다음에 할께요. 사야하는데 택배가 (당일) 도착을 안하니까 너무 불편하다고"

"손님들이 여기서 아침에 물건을 보고 우체국 당일 택배로 보내는 분이 많은데 다 안돼서...그게 안되면 익일택배, 다음날 도착하는 걸로 보내달라 하는데 그것도 안돼요. 그런 점이 불편해요."

우정청에서는
항공사와의 여러차례 협의에도 이같은 결정을 내리게 됐다며
다른 항공사와의 계약 등
당일 특급 서비스를
재개하는 방안을 모색하고 있다고 설명했습니다.

하지만 대부분의 항공사에서
우편물 취급 규정을 강화하는 추세여서
실제 개선될 수 있을지는 미지수 입니다.

그러는 동안 피해와 불편은
고스란히 도민들의 몫으로 돌아가고 있습니다.
