Excavation at Darangshi Cave in Question

The Jeju Society for Journalism & Communication Research has raised the opinion that investigation and additional excavation of remains at Darangshi Cave are needed.

The Jeju Society for Journalism & Communication Research held a seminar recently and (박경훈) Park Kyung-hoon, the advisory chairman of Jeju April 3rd Peace Park , said during a presentation that although the remains found at the Darangshi Cave is considered to be symbolic to the history of the Jeju April 3rd Incident investigations, the investigation results have not been dealt with properly.

Park suggested main tasks, including a probe into the excavation of remains, excavation of additional remains and promotion of the sanctuary project.

On April 1st, 1992, 11 remains excavated at the Darangshi Cave were cremated and sprayed at sea at (김녕리) Gimnyeong-ri 45 days after they were excavated without any investigation under the order by the government.



'다랑쉬굴 유해' 진상조사·추가 발굴 과제로 제시

제주 4.3 진상규명의 기폭제가 된 다랑쉬굴 유해에 대한
진상조사와 추가 발굴이 필요하다는 주장이 제기됐습니다.

최근 제주언론학회가
'다랑쉬굴 발굴 30년, 성찰과 과제'를 주제로 마련한 특별세미나에서
박경훈 4.3평화공원 운영관리 자문위원장은
주제 발표를 통해
다랑쉬굴 유해발굴이 진상규명운동사에서 상징적인 사건이라는
비중에 비해 별도의 조사결과로 다뤄지지는 못했다고 설명했습니다.

그러면서 핵심 과제로
유해 발굴에 대한 진상조사와 잔존 유해 발굴,
성역화 사업 추진 등을 제시했습니다.

지난 1992년 4월 1일 발굴된 다랑쉬굴 유해 11구는
당시 정권의 강요로 정밀 조사도 없이 발굴 45일 만에 화장돼
김녕리 앞바다에 뿌려졌습니다.
