Discount on Local Currency Discontinued

The 10% discount on Jeju Island’s local currency,
(탐나는전) Tamnaneunjeon will be discontinued within the month due to lack of budget.

Consumers have been able to purchase the currency with a 10% discount with up to a maximum of 700,000 won a month.

The Jeju provincial government said that the discount benefits will be temporarily suspended, as the use of local currency has skyrocketed, leading to difficulties in maintaining the discount benefits.

Currently, 71% of the budget for the local currency issuance
has been used and the rest of the budget
is expected to be utilized by this month.

The provincial government is planning to resume
offering temporary discounts
on the local currency during Chuseok holidays
by securing an additional budget in the second half of the year.

제주도는 탐나는전 이용 규모가 급증해
할인 발행을 유지하기 어려운 상황이어서
이달 중 할인 혜택을 잠정 중단한다고 밝혔습니다.

현재 올해 전체 할인 발행 예산의 81%가 소진됐으며
남은 예산도 이달 중 대부분 소진될 전망입니다.

제주도는 올해 하반기 예산을 추가 확보해
9월 추석 명절 등에
할인 발행을 일시적으로 재개할 계획입니다.
