Inspections on Neutrality of Public Officials in Elections

The Jeju Province will initiate its inspection on neutrality in the elections by public officials ahead of the local election on June 1st.

The inspection will focus on participating in election campaigns, visiting a specific candidate’s camp, posting posts that support or slander specific parties and/or candidates on social media and supporting the budget.

The provincial office will also strengthen its inspection on relaxation of discipline, including being absent without leave and violating the code of conduct.

According to the Public Official Election Act, public officials violating the neutrality in the elections will face up to five years in prison and a maximum 20 million won in fines and officials violating the ban on campaigning will face up to three years in prison and a maximum 6 million won in fines.

지방선거 분위기에 편승한 무단 결근이나 근무지 이탈,
공무원 행동강령 위반, 소극적 업무 처리 등
기강 해이 사례에 대해서도 감찰을 강화합니다.

공직선거법은 공무원의 정치적 중립 의무 위반에 대해
5년 이하 징역 또는 2천만 원 이하의 벌금,
선거운동 금지 위반에 대해서는 3년 이하의 징역 또는
600만 원 이하의 벌금형에 처하고 있습니다.
