Global Education City Project Postponed

The second phase of the Jeju Free International Development Center’s Global Education City Project in Deajeong-eup has been postponed.

The Jeju Free International Development Center (JDC) made the decision of postponement during its board meeting held on March 24th.

The board made the decision, considering issues
including environmental concerns
and negative perceptions of stakeholders.

The second phase of the project plans
to establish a university area for foreign universities in Jeju.

However, bringing in universities has been delayed
and the construction being done on Jeju’s Gotjawal area has raised concern regarding the environment.

JDC가 추진하는
서귀포시 대정읍 제주영어교육도시 2단계 사업이 유보됐습니다.

JDC는 지난달 24일 열린 이사회에서 이같이 결정했습니다.

이사회는 영어도시 2단계 사업과 관련된
환경적인 문제와
이해 관계자의 부정적 인식 등을
종합적으로 판단해
유보 결정을 내린 것으로 전해졌습니다.

영어도시 2단계 사업 구역은
외국대학 중심의 대학지역으로 구상됐지만
대학 유치가 늦어지고
곶자왈 지역에 포함돼 있어 환경훼손 지적을 받아 왔습니다.
