Number of Welfare Payment Applications Skyrocketing

The spread of COVID-19 increases the number of households applying for welfare payment.

According to the Jeju City Municipal Office, the number of applications for 16 categories of welfare payment, including the benefit from the National Basic Livelihood Protection Program and basic pension, exceeds more than twice that of last year.

In particular, the number of welfare payment applications amounts to 7,600 from January through March.

Jeju City analyzed that the increase is attributed to abolition of support obligation rules to receive welfare payments and financial difficulties caused by losing jobs and closing businesses led by COVID-19.

전년보다 2배 이상 급증했습니다.

특히 올들어 지난달까지 복지급여 신청 건수도
7천600여 건에 이르고 있습니다.

제주시는 부양의무자 기준이 단계적으로 폐지되고
코로나19로 실직과 폐업 증가로 인한 경제적 어려움이 반영된 결과로 분석하고 있습니다.
