Athletes Prepare for National Junior Sports Festival

On a chilly day, young soccer players move quickly around the pitch.
They're practicing their impressive passing and shooting skills.

This is part of the prematches held to select athletes representing Jeju at the 51st National Junior Sports Festival.
Due to the pandemic, this will be the first festival in three years, making the players all the more determined to succeed.

Many games have been canceled because of the pandemic. I'll do my best to be selected for the National Junior Sports Festival.

As the National Junior Sports Festival is being held after 3 years, I'll do my best to win the pre-match and get good results at the event.

The athlete selection process began at the end of last month and will continue through the end of April.
They are organized by sports federations of 36 different sports types, including baseball.

In order to ensure that the young athletes can concentrate on their studies, most matches are held on weekends.

The 51st National Junior Sports Festival will be held in (구미) Gumi, North (경상) Gyeongsang Province from May 28th to the 31st.



"반갑다 소년체전"...선발전 '후끈'


쌀쌀한 날씨에도 불구하고
선수들이 지칠줄 모르고 그라운드를 누빕니다.

화려한 개인기에 이어 시원한 슈팅이 터집니다.

제51회 전국소년체육대회를 앞두고
제주 대표 선수를 가리는 선발전이 한창입니다.

코로나19로 사실상 소년체육대회가 3년 만에 열리면서
이번 선발전에 참가하는 선수들의 각오는 남다릅니다.

"코로나 때문에 대회가 많이 없었는데 이번에 소체 선발전이 열리면서 선발전에 뽑히기 위해 열심히 하겠습니다. "


[인터뷰 김주현 / 제주일중 축구부 주장]
"오랜만에 소년체전이 열리는 만큼 준비 열심히 해서 선발전 우승한 다음에 꼭 소년체전에 가서 좋은 성적 내고 싶어요. "


지난 달 말부터 시작된 선발전은
이달 말까지 야구를 포함해
36개 종목단체 주관으로 진행됩니다.


특히 참가 선수들의 학습권 보호를 위해
경기는
주말에 집중해서 열리고 있습니다.


올해로 51회째를 맞는 전국소년체육대회는
다음달 28일부터
31일까지 경북 구미에서 열립니다.
