Jeju Releases Documents from 19th Century

The Jeju Cultural Center has released a translation with notes of village daily records by government officials of (대정) Daejeong and (안덕) Andeok in the 19th century.

The records reflect the office administration and lives of governors and residents.

The village records are divided into two parts. One is the journey from when (김인택) Kim In-taek was appointed as prefect of (대정) Daejeong on March 30th of 1817 to when he arrived in Jeju on May 27th.
The other part is his records during his incumbency,
starting from his declaration on May 28th
and including initiation of his office on June 1st.

The records are a diary of a high-ranking public official, and include records of both official duties and private history,
allowing people to see behaviors and values of authorities
during the Joseon Dynasty.



제주문화원, '대정현아중일기' 역주본 발간

제주문화원이 19세기 조선시대 제주 대정현의
관아행정과 현감, 도민 생활상을 엿볼 수 있는
대정현아중일기 필사본을 해석한 역주을 펴냈습니다.

대정현아중일기는 크게 두개의 부분으로 나눠
1817년 3월 30일 김인택이 대정현감에 제수돼
5월 27일 제주 별도포에 도착할 때까지 여정과
5월 28일 제주목사에게 부임 신고를 하고
6월 1일 대정현 관아에 도착해 업무를 수행해나가는
재임 기간 전체의 기록이 담겨 있습니다.

현재로 치면 고위직 공무원의 일기라고 할 수 있는데,
공적 업무와 사적으로 이뤄진 일이 두루 섞여 있어
조선시대 관료들 행태와 의식을 곳곳에서 엿볼 수 있습니다.
