Ongoing Ready-mix Concrete Union Strikes

A strike by the cement transportation union in Jeju has continued more than 15 days, leading to construction projects to be halted.

According to the province and construction association,
70 construction projects in Jeju, including 18 private projects
and 49 government ordered construction projects
have been suspended or are planned to be halted.

The supply of ready-mixed concrete to construction sites
has been suspended, as the workers transporting concrete
formed a labor union in the middle of April
and began the strike.

The labor union is asking to raise freight fees and subsidize fuel costs, taking a firm line.

작업을 멈추는 등 차질이 빚어지고 있습니다.

제주도와 건설협회 등에 따르면
도내 건설 현장에서 민간 공사 18곳
관급공사 49개소 등 70여 곳이
공사를 중단했거나 중단 예정인 것으로 알려졌습니다.

레미콘 운수 종사자가 이달 중순 노동 조합을 결성한 뒤
파업에 들어가면서 공사 현장으로 레미콘 공급이 중단됐기 때문입니다.

노조측은 운임료 인상과 유류비 지원 등을 요구하고 있습니다.
