Businesses Caught for Illegal Wastewater Discharge

Six companies are caught for discharging wastewater illegally into stormwater pipelines in which rainwater runs through.

The Jeju Municipal Police said that the police have uncovered six business sites that violated the Water Environment Conservation Act,
including a golf course and five rental car businesses which are currently under investigation.

They are suspected of dumping tons of wastewater used for cleaning grass mowers and rental cars into public waters via stormwater pipelines without using purifiers.

The Water Environment Conservation Act stipulates that business owners that discharge more than 100 liters of wastewater per day must install purifiers and report to authorities.

우수관에 폐수 몰래 버린 업체 6곳 적발

빗물이 흐르는 우수관을 통해
폐수를 몰래 버려 온 업체들이
무더기로 적발됐습니다.

제주도 자치경찰단은
물환경보전법 위반 혐의로
도내 골프장 1곳과 렌터카 사업장 5곳을 적발해
수사하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

해당 업체는
골프장 잔디깎는 기계나
렌터카 차량 등을 세척한 뒤 발생한 폐수 수천 톤을
정화 장치를 거치지 않고
우수관을 통해 공공수역에 방류한 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

한편 물환경보전법은
하루 최대 100리터 이상의 폐수가 발생할 경우
정화시설을 설치한 뒤
관할 관청에 신고하도록 규정하고 있습니다.
