1st Case of Vibrio Sepsis in Nation Reported

This year’s first case of Vibrio Sepsis has been reported in Gyeonggi-do Province, indicating that careful attention to the disease is needed.

The Jeju Institute of Health and Environment says that consuming contaminated or uncooked seafood or letting a wound come into contact with seawater can lead to Vibrio infection especially in periods of high sea surface temperatures during the summer time.

Vibrio Sepsis patients that have chronic liver diseases or diabetes show a high death rate exceeding 50% and therefore are recommended to take extra precautions.

In the past five years, three cases of Vibrio Sepsis
have been reported with one death in 2020.

지난달 경기도에서 올해 처음 비브리오 패혈증 확진자가 발생해
주의가 요구됩니다.

제주도 보건환경연구원은
여름철 해수면 온도가 상승하는 시기에
오염된 어패류를 날 것으로 먹거나
상처 부위에 오염된 바닷물을 접촉할 경우
비브리오 패혈증에 감염될 수 있다고 설명했습니다.

특히 만성 간질환자나 당뇨병 등 기저질환이 있는 경우
치사율이 50%에 이를 정도로 높아 각별한 주의가 필요합니다.

최근 5년간 제주에서 발생항 비브리오 패혈증 환자는 3명으로
지난 2020년에는 1명이 숨졌습니다.
