Wheat Production Complex Project Pushed Forward

With the recent increase in international wheat prices, Jeju’s project to establish wheat production complexes on the island is gaining attention.

The Jeju Agricultural Research & Extensions Services will invest 750 million won into the project of creating wheat production complexes of 20 hectares in the western region of Jeju.

Domestic varieties bred by the Rural Development Administration will be used to harvest 65 tons of wheat annually.

The annual wheat consumption per person in Korea amounts to 33kg, which is the second highest amount followed by rice consumption. However, the self-sufficiency rate of wheat in Korea is at 0.8%, indicating that domestic wheat consumption is hugely dependent on imports.

서부지역 약 20헥타아르 지역에
국산밀 생산단지를 조성사업을 추진합니다.

농촌진흥청에서 육성한
국산 품종을 사용하게 되며
연간 65톤의 수확량이 예상됩니다.

우리나라 밀 소비량은 1인당 연간 33kg으로
쌀 다음으로 높지만
대부분 수입에 의존하고 있고
자급률은 0.8%에 불과한 실정입니다.
