Water and Sand at Jeju Beaches Tests Safe

Ahead of the opening of local beaches in July, authorities reveal that the water and white sand at local beaches have tested clean of contaminants.

The Jeju Public Health and Environment Research Institute surveyed 12 designated beaches and 6 frequently visited areas.
Results from the survey showed colon bacillus and enterococcus bacteria to be within acceptable levels.

The results also showed that heavy metal was detected in white sand,
but the level was within acceptable levels.

The institute said that the water surveys at local beaches
will be conducted four more times during the opening period of the beaches and their results will be released for beachgoers in time for the summer season.

도내 해수욕장 수질·백사장 모두 '안전'

다음달 해수욕장이 개장하는 가운데
해수욕장 수질과 백사장이 모두 안전한 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도 보건환경연구원은
도내 해수욕장 12곳과 물놀이지역 6곳의 수질을 검사한 결과
대장균과 장구균 항목이 모두 기준 이하로 나왔습니다.

백사장 토양오염 검사에서도
일부 중금속이 검출됐지만 모두 기준치 이하였습니다.

보건환경연구원은
안전하게 물놀이를 즐길 수 있도록
해수욕장 개장기간 수질조사를 4차례 추가 실시해
결과를 공개하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
