Appeal by April 3rd Victims Held June 22

The trial of appeal of surviving prisoners who were imprisoned during the April 3rd Incident will be held on the 22nd. The prisoners filed a civil suit against the national government.

The first hearing of the appeal, which was filed by 30 surviving prisoners, will be held on 22nd at the Gwangju High Court.

In October, last year, the surviving prisoners and their bereaved families claimed 12 billion won of compensation against the government for the illegal activities during the April 3rd Incident.

However, the judges ruled that as the criminal compensation was given to the prisoners, the amount of provided criminal compensation needs to be subtracted from the amount of damage compensation. The plaintiff did not agree with the ruling and appealed to the higher court.

국가를 상대로 제기한
손해배상 소송 항소심 첫 공판을 진행합니다.

지난해 10월 1심 재판에서
4.3 생존수형인과 유족들은
불법 행위에 대한 책임을 물어
국가에 120억원 상당의 손해배상을 청구했습니다.

하지만 1심 재판부는
이미 지급된 형사보상금과의 차액만을 배상금으로 인정했고
수형인과 유족들은 이에 반발해 항소했습니다.
