Jeju Pushes to Host APEC Meeting

Jeju Island is pushing forward with plans to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Korea in 2025.

The province said that the officials are organizing a Jeju promotion preparation team and establishing strategies for each stage to hold the meeting.

The province will also put more efforts in gathering signatures of one million people as a part of a signature-seeking campaign.

(인천) Incheon, (경주) Gyeongju, and (부산) Busan are also showing willingness to host the APEC Meeting. In 2005, Jeju tried to host the APEC Meeting, however, Jeju failed to host the event, as (부산) Busan was selected for the event venue.

제주도가 20년만에 APEC 즉 아시아태평양경제협력체 정상회의 유치에 나섰습니다.

제주도는
2025년 한국에서 열리는 APEC 행사 유치를 위해
제주유치 추진준비단을 구성하고 단계별 전략을 수립하고
있다고 밝혔습니다.

우선 홍보 분위기를 조성하고 100만 서명운동 등 유치 활동을
강화할 계획입니다.

현재 2025년 APEC 정상회의 유치에는
제주를 비롯한 인천과 부산, 경주 등 4곳이 경쟁을 벌이고 있으며
지난 2005년에는 부산에 밀려 탈락했습니다.
