Winter Crops Expecting Overproduction

Survey results showed the need for reduction in the cultivation area of winter radishes, carrots and cabbages due to overproduction.

Through a survey the provincial government identified the need to diversify crop cultivation. The total current cultivation area amounts to 13,000 hectares, which is 97 hectares less than that of last year.

The cultivation area for winter radishes and cabbages decreased slightly compared to last year but are larger than that of average year. In addition, the cultivation areas of carrots increased by five percent compared to last year, even though carrots were discarded this year.

The survey results also indicated that the cultivation areas of winter radishes needing to be reduced by more than 1,000 hectares, cabbages by more than 10 percent, and carrots by more than 100 hectares respectively.

The provincial government plans to make it compulsory for organizations to reduce their cultivation areas by more than 10%. Moreover, the office will support farmers that decide to cultivate other crops or set-aside their farmlands.

'월동무·당근·양배추' 과잉생산 예상…"감축 필요"

월동무와 당근, 양배추가 과잉 생산이 예상돼

제주도가 농업인을 대상으로
주요 품목에 대한 재배의향을 조사한 결과
전체적인 재배의향 면적은 1만 3천여 헥타아르로
지난해보다 97헥타아르 감소했습니다.

월동무와 양배추는
지난해보다 소폭 줄었지만 평년보다는 많았고
당근은 올해 산지폐기를 했는데도
지난해보다 약 5% 늘었습니다.

이에따라 월동무는
1천 헥타아르 이상, 양배추는 10% 이상,
당근도 100헥타아르 이상 감축해야 할 것으로 분석됐습니다.

제주도는
자조금 단체를 중심으로 10% 이상 의무적으로 감축하도록 하고,
농지를 휴경하거나
다른 작물을 재배할 경우 지원할 방침입니다.
