Overseas Water Inflow Concerns Locals


Concerns over the inflow of high-temperature and low-salt water originating from China is raising concern among locals.

According to the Jeju Marine Fisheries Research Institute, on the 30th of last month, Low-salinity water mass has been identified approximately 150km southwest of the island. Fortunately it is not being seen to have any affects to the coasts.

This is because of the recent heavy downpours originating in China which has been showing an increased inflow by 17%.

Especially for this summer, the rise in water temperature is expected increase by 1 degree. This is said to increase the possibility of low-salinated water inflow.

The province has formed a task force team
to strengthen the observation of village fishing grounds and fishing farms to conduct real-time water temperature salinity observations.

제주도 서남쪽 약 150km 해상에서
저염분수 물덩어리가 확인됐지만
현재는 분산돼 연안에 영향을 없는 것으로 파악됐습니다.

이는 최근 중국 지역 폭우로
양자강 유출량이 평년보다 17% 늘어났기 때문입니다.

특히 올해 여름철 수온은
평년보다 1도 가량 높을 것으로 전망돼
고수온을 동반한 저염분수 유입 가능성이 커지고 있습니다.

제주도는 비상상황반을 편성해
마을 어장과 양식장 예찰을 강화하고
실시간 수온 염분 관측을 실시할 예정입니다.
