Violations for Bus-Only Lane Surge

While the standards for detecting violations of bus-only lanes have been strengthened this year, the number of fines have increased more than double.

According to Jeju City, the number of fines imposed on illegal vehicles caught driving on bus-only lanes amounted to 5,800 cases last month estimating to a total of 290 million won.

The total number has more than doubled from 2,000 cases in the same period of 2020 and last year, with rental cars accounting for 30% of the total.

Jeju City will continue to crack down on rental car companies and stated that the number of fines has increased as penalties are given the first time vehicles are caught instead of issuing 2 warnings.

버스전용차로 위반 적발 기준이 올해부터 강화된 가운데 과태료 부과 건수가 갑절 이상 늘었습니다.

제주시에 따르면, 올들어 지난달까지 버스전용차로 위반으로 과태료를 부과한 건수는 5천 800여 건에 2억 9천여 만 원으로 집계됐습니다.

이는 2020년과 지난해 같은 기간 2천여 건보다 두배 이상 늘어난 것으로 렌터카가 전체의 약 30%에 달했습니다.

제주시는 과태료 부과 기준이 3회 적발에서
올해 1회로 강화되면서
부과 건수가 늘었다며
앞으로 렌터카 업체를 상대로
단속 내용을 지속적으로 홍보하기로 했습니다.
