Exhibition “Though, We Are in Love”

Clowns at rest. Calm. Their eyes closed. Seemingly in peace.
They may look similar, but their differences come through, and fill the space.
Though they are symbols of fun and cheer, their lonely hearts are on full display, stemming from their tired expressions and penetrating their colorful makeup.

This is a piece by the world-renowned installation and performance artist Yoko Ono.

The artist asks the audience to leave, if they so choose, a message of hope for both minorities and for the artist herself, who also feels isolation.

The exhibition “Though, We Are in Love” offers a rare opportunity for those in Jeju to enjoy the work of some famous contemporary artists.

The works of art cover various media types by seven notable artists including (이배경) Lee Bae-gyeong, Yoko Ono and, Ugo Rondinone.

The exhibition provides an opportunity for visitors to think about the values of diversity and coexistence, and to focus on the stories of minorities living as strangers in unfamiliar lands.

The exhibition has the heavy theme of diaspora. We hope to find a way to erase the boundaries created by people moving, and to find a solution to empathize with and embrace the difficulties of isolated peoples, minorities, and migrants.

The exhibition has put a lot of attention into the composition of the space.

Areas for visitors to more fully participate with some of the artwork - such as with the five senses - are provided.

This second special exhibition at the (포도) Podo Museum is on now, and will run until July of next year.

눈을 지긋이 감은채 깊은 휴식을 취하고 있는 광대들.

비슷한듯 각기 다른 모습을 한
고독의 존재들이
공간을 가득 채우고 있습니다.

화려한 분장 뒤로 보이는 지친 표정에서
광대들의 외로운 마음이 전해집니다.

적막한 흰색 전시 공간에 푸른 물결이 일렁입니다.

관객들이 채워 넣은 위로의 메시지가
파란 바다를 만들어냅니다.

세계적인 설치미술가이자 행위예술가인
요코 오노의 작품입니다.

작가는 관객들에게
세상의 소수자와 소외감을 겪는 자기 자신에게 남기고 싶은
희망의 메시지를 자유롭게 남겨달라고 요구합니다.

제주에서는 좀처럼 만나보기 힘들었던
현대미술가들의 작품들이 한자리에 모였습니다.

한국의 이배경 작가부터 요코 오노, 우고 론디노네 등
7명의 주목받는 예술가들의 다양한 매체의 작품들을 선보이고 있습니다.

낯선 땅에서 이방인으로 살아가는 소수자들의 이야기를 중심으로
다양성과 공존에 대한 가치를 되돌아보게 합니다.

디아스포라라는 무거운 주제를 담고 있습니다. 사람이 이주를 하면서 만들어진 경계를 어떻게 지울 수 있을까 고민하면서 시작을 했고,
소외와 소수민, 이주민의 어려움을 서로 공감하고 포용하는 해결 방안을 찾는데….

특히, 이번 전시는 공간 구성에도 많은 신경을 썼습니다.

다양한 설치 공간들을 통해
기존의 미술 전시 관람을 넘어
오감으로 교감하며 즐길 수 있는 참여형 전시 공간들을 제공하고 있습니다.

감각적이고 개성있는 예술작품들을 만나볼 수 있는
포도뮤지엄의 두번째 특별 기획전.
이번 전시는 내년 7월까지 1년간 이어질 예정입니다.
