Climate Change Affects Garlic Farmers

The Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services said it is necessary to delay the garlic vinyl coating period due to climate change.

The Center explained that crop coatings is customarly done in early and mid-October. However the higher temperatures in fall is expected to slow down growth and increase the risk of pests.

Accordingly, he recommended to delay sowing and vinyl coating by about 10 days and suggested to use black vinyl instead of transparent vinyl or spray liquid mulching agents instead.

기후변화로 마늘 비닐피복 시기를 늦출 필요가 있다고 밝혔습니다.

서부농업기술센터는 관행적으로 마늘 파종 후 10월 상중순에 비닐피복을 하고 있지만
가을철 기온 상승에 따라
생육이 멈추고 병충해 발생 우려가 높다고 설명했습니다.

이에따라 파종과 비닐피복 시기를 각각 10일 정도 늦춰야 한다고 강조했습니다.

또 피복 소재를 투명비닐에서 검정비닐로 바꾸거나 비닐 대신 액상멀칭제 살포 등 피복 방법을 개선할 필요가 있다고 권고했습니다.
