JNU Hospital Invests in Particle Treatment Therapy

A long awaited cancer treatment center will be established in the province.

Jeju National University Hospital signed an MOU with Japan’s Toshiba company to introduce particle treatment facilities.

Particle therapy penetrates carbon ions which are accelerated up to 70% of the light speed and irradiated into tumors without affecting normal cells. This method is known to be highly effective and has little side effects.

According to the agreement, Jeju National University Hospital plans to invest 500 billion won by 2026 for the center.

This establishment of the treatment facility in the province will be the third facility following Yonsei Medical Center and Seoul National University Hospital.




제주대병원 '중입자선 암치료 센터' 건립 추진


꿈의 암치료로 불리는 '중입자선 암치료'가 제주에서도 도입을 추진하고 있어 주목되고 있습니다.

제주대학교병원은 오늘 오전 제주대병원 대강당에서
일본 도시바 업체와 중입자선 암치료 설비 도입을 위한 MOU를 체결했습니다.

중입자 치료는
탄소이온을 빛의 70% 속도까지 끌어올린 뒤 암세포에 집중 투사하는 방식으로
정상세포에 영향을 주지 않고
암 부위만 공격하기 때문에
부작용이 거의 없으면서
치료 효과가 높다는 특징을 갖고 있습니다.

제주대학교병원은 이번 업무협약에 따라 오는 2026년까지 예산 5천억원을 투입해 중입자 치료센터를 조성한다는 계획입니다.

제주에 중입자 암치료 설비가 도입되면 국내에서는
연세의료원과 서울대학교병원에 이어 세번째로 기록될 전망입니다.
