Jeju to Go Zero-Plastic by 2040

Jeju Governor (오영훈) Oh Young-hoon has declared to have Jeju take the lead as a plastic-free island.

At the opening ceremony of the Jeju Plus International Environment Forum held at the Jeju International Convention Center on the 4th, Governor Oh announced his master plan to create a zero-plastic island by 2040.

Plans were announced to create a Zero Plastic Global Committee involving UNESCO, the Ministry of Environment, and Civil organizations.

Representatives of the UNESCO, the Ministry of Environment and IUCN who attended the forum expressed their support on Oh's proposal.

오영훈 제주도지사가 제주를 플라스틱 제로 아일랜드로 만들겠다고 선언했습니다.

오 지사는 4일 제주국제컨벤션센터에서 열린 제주플러스 국제환경포럼 개회식에서 유네스코 3관왕 제주를 더욱 빛나게 만들기 위해 2040년까지 플라스틱 제로 아일랜드를 만들기 위한 마스터플랜을 역점 추진해 나가겠다고 밝혔습니다.

이를 위해 국제기구인 유네스코와
환경부, 시민사회단체 등이 참여하는 가칭 플라스틱 제로 글로벌위원회 구성을 공식 제안했습니다.

포럼에 참석한 유네스코와 환경부, IUCN 관계자들은
오 지사의 제안에 적극적인 참여와 지원 입장을 나타냈습니다.
