Ministry of Justice Promotes Retrial for Jeju 4.

With Jeju 4.3 retrials in full swing, the victims to receive retrials will be expanded to include general trial victims in addition to military victims.

Justice Minister (한동훈) Han Dong-hoon recently called upon a Joint Task Force to establish measures and expand retrials to include civilian victims while stressing the importance of restoring the honor as well as rights of the victims.

This change will not only help to simplify the hectic lawsuit preparation process for each individual, it will also help to restore honor of the bereaved families.

So far, 250 military trial victims have been acquitted through retrials by the Jeju 4.3 joint delegation.




법무부, 4·3일반재판 수형인 직권재심 확대 추진

4.3 재심이 한창 진행중인 가운데 정부 차원의 특별재심 청구 대상에 현재 군사재판에 이어 일반재판 수형인까지 확대하는 방안이 추진됩니다.

한동훈 법무부 장관은 최근 '4.3사건 직권재심 권고 합동수행단'으로부터 업무보고를 받고 4.3 특별법에 명시된 군법회의 뿐 아니라 일반재판 수형인과 유가족에 대한 명예회복과 권리구제 필요성도 크다며 직권 재심 청구를 확대할 수 있는 방안을 마련하라고 지시했습니다.


이에따라 일반재판 수형인의 경우 개별적으로 자료를 준비하고 소송을 제기하면서 많은 제약을 받고 있어 이번 특별재심 대상에 포함된다면 절차 간소화로 유족들의 명예회복에 큰 도움을 될 전망입니다.

현재까지 4.3사건 직권재심권고합동수행단의 직권 재심 절차를 통해 무죄를 선고 받은 군사재판 수형인은 250명에 이르고 있습니다.
