Shine Muscat Grape Harvest Begins


A grapevine is loaded with crisp, fragrant fruit with light green skin.

Following the launch of pilot projects that started two years ago, it’s now harvest season for shine muscat grapes.
The sugar content of each bunch is carefully checked prior to harvesting.

We have 3,000 bunches of fruit this year. It’s a big success given that it has been only 2 years since we started growing them. Seogwipo City helps us sell it at a good price.

The shine muscat has become popular across the nation and the number of growers has increased to 30 in Jeju.
Most of the shine muscat farms are in (애월) Aewol, (구좌) Gujwa and (표선) Pyoseon.

Most shine muscat farms in Jeju are shipping their first harvests this year. They’ve been able to sell the fruit at 35,000 won for 2 kilograms of three bunches, a significant profit.

The fruit is harvested from the end of August to the end of October.
It can be stored for months and will be shipped through to the next Lunar New Year.

Shine muscats have firm flesh, so they store well. They can be stored for about three months at a low temperature. If there is a SO2 pad, they can be stored for up to six months and shipped by next year's Lunar New Year.

In Jeju’s mild weather, the fruit is harvested 15 days to a month earlier than on the mainland, even without a greenhouse.

This grape species is attracting attention as a new cash crop for local farms as the volume of exports and domestic consumption are growing.

Although it’s early days for the introduction of the shine muscat, the Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Service plans to periodically check on its status and establish cultivation technologies suitable for the island.




제주산 '샤인머스캣' 본격 수확


초록 빛깔의 샤인머스캣이 싱그럽게 익었습니다.

2년 전부터 제주에서 재배를 시작해 올해 본격적인 수확이 이뤄지고 있습니다.

수확 전 열매마다 당도를 꼼꼼히 체크하고
잘익은 것만 골라 출하합니다.

2년 차이기 때문에 3분의 1이나 반 정도로 올해는 3천 송이 정도 달렸고요. 생각보다는 잘 달려서 기분이 좋고, 서귀포 시청 쪽에서 판매도 많이 도와주셔서 좋은 가격에 판매할 수 있어서….

전국적으로 샤인머스캣이 소비자들의 인기를 끌면서
제주에서도 애월과 구좌,표선을 중심으로 재배 농가가 30곳으로 늘었습니다.

대부분 농가가 올해 첫 출하를 하고 있는데
3송이 2kg에 3만 5천원이라는 높은 가격에 판매되면서 소득작목 역할을 톡톡히 하고 있습니다.

샤인머스캣 수확은 8월 말부터 10월 말까지 이뤄지지만
저장성이 뛰어나 내년 설까지도 분산 출하가 가능합니다.

샤인머스캣이 과가 단단해서 저장성이 좋거든요. 그래서 일반 저온 저장했을 때도 3개월 정도 저장이 되고, 유황패드를 안에 넣어서 저장하면 6개월까지 저장이 되면서 내년 설까지 출하가 될 수 있을 것으로….

제주에서는 가온재배를 하지 않아도 내륙지방보다 보름에서 한달 일찍 수확할 수 있고
기후조건이 좋아 고품질 생산이 가능할 것으로 보입니다.

국내 소비는 물론 수출도 많이 이뤄지기 때문에
제주지역의 새로운 효자 작목으로 주목받고 있습니다.

농업기술원은 샤인머스캣 도입 초기인 만큼 생육상황을 주기적으로 점검하고
제주 농업환경에 적합한 재배기술을 정립할 계획입니다.
