Electric Air Taxis to be Seen in 2025


This is an “air taxi” powered by four propellers for vertical take-offs and landings.

The electric aircraft is attracting attention as a future mode of transportation, one that can help solve urban growth and environmental issues.
From 2025, air taxis are expected to travel through the island’s airspace.

The province, along with Korea Airports Corporation, SK Telecom, and Hanwha Systems, is fostering urban air mobility, or UAM, as a new industry for the future.

For safety reasons, the province plans to start with a service for tourists that connects Jeju with its neighboring islands, rather than operating within urban areas.
The service would then be expanded to cover logistics and emergency medical services.

We are planning to create a service model where passengers can sightsee around the Seongsan Sunrise Peak, Udo Island and Seopjikoji and later Hallasan’s summit.


Since the government officially announced its push to introduce UAM, Jeju has been deemed the best place for air taxi operations amid a quiet competition between local governments.

Jeju’s airspace is less restricted than other regions on the mainland which have more urban centers and military installations.
In particular, neighboring islands and simple coastline are optimal for the development of routes for the air taxi business.

Aviation-related regulations are relatively less tight compared to other cities on the mainland. If we make proper use of the environmental conditions of the island, Jeju will be the best place for drone commercialization.


The province is planning to assign UAM directors in charge of each field, form a dedicated team, and come up with a detailed action plan. Special attention is being paid to the timeline for air taxis to take to Jeju’s skies within three years.

물류와 응급 의료 등으로 서비스 영역을 확대한다는 구상입니다.

성산일출봉, 우도 섭지코지를 관람할 수 있는 서비스 모델을 만들고 향후에는 한라산 백록담까지 관광할 수 있게 하려고 하는데요.


정부가 '도심 항공 교통' 도입 추진을 공식화 한 이후
각 지방자치단체가 조용한 유치 전쟁을 벌이는 가운데
제주는 이른바 에어택시 운항에 최적지로 꼽히고 있습니다.

복잡한 도심과 군 부대가 많지 않아
에어택시 비행에 제한이 되는 공역이
다른 지역보다 상대적으로 유리하다는 겁니다.

특히 주변 도서 지역이나 단조로운 해안선 등은
에어택시 사업을 활발하게 펼칠 노선 개발에 유리한 것으로 분석됩니다.

항공과 관련된 규제가 다른 지역의 도심에 비해서 상대적으로 약합니다.그리고 우리는 바다라는 조건이 있습니다. 연안 바다라는 공간을 우리가 제대로 활용한다면 충분히 드론 상용화의 최적지가 될 수 있을 겁니다.

제주도는 앞으로 분야별로 담당자를 지정하고 전담팀을 구성하고
실행 계획을 구체적으로 마련할 방침인 가운데
3년 뒤 제주에서 에어택시가 상용화될 지 주목됩니다.
