Gangesters Arrested


It's a quiet dawn. A black car stops.
Three young men of sturdy build get out of the car and rush into a man standing on the street and start beating him violently.

The men who got out of the vehicle were members of gang A.

They were arrested on charges of forcibly carrying two members of a rival gang in (일도동) Ildo-dong and (아라동) Ara-dong, Jeju City, and taking them to public cemeteries to beat them.

The police also sent six members of gang A involved in the violence to the prosecution on charges of confinement.

Two members of the gang allegedly threatened brothel owners to steal money under the pretext of "protection costs."

They visited brothels pretending to be guests, and threatened the brothel owners to pay so-called "taxes" to run the business.

In this way, the gang allegedly extorted more than 18 million won from three brothel owners for a year and eight months from July 2020.

The gang contacts brothels that advertise their business and says they need to pay "tax" to keep their business going safely, and threaten them to pay it under the pretext of a protection fee, unless they want to close their business.


Meanwhile, the gang also supplied fake phones to brothel owners and handled difficult customers.

The police additionally arrested 105 people, including brothel owners and prostitutes.

It has been reported that a civil servant is included in the list of johns.

Following the crackdowns on organized gang crimes, the Jeju Police Agency arrested 116 people, including gangsters and prostitutes who participated in illegal activities, and imprisoned eight of them.

집단폭행에 갈취까지, 조폭 무더기 검거


인적이 드문 새벽 시간.
검은 차량 한 대가 멈춰섭니다.

건장한 남성들이 차에서 내리더니
길에 서 있던 남성에 달려들어 무차별 폭행을 시작합니다.

차량에서 내린 일당은 A 조직 폭력배 추종세력 3명.

이들은 제주시 일도동과 아라동에서
경쟁 조직 추종세력 2명을 강제로 차량에 태운 뒤
공설묘지로 데려가 집단 폭행한 혐의로 구속됐습니다.

경찰은 이에 가담한 조직 폭력배 6명도
특수감금 혐의로 검찰에 추가 송치했습니다.

해당 조직의 조직원 2명은 성매매 업소 운영자들을 협박해
보호비 명목으로 돈을 가로챈 혐의도 받고 있습니다.

이들은 손님인 척 업소를 방문한 뒤 자신이 조폭임을 내세워
업소를 운영하려면 이른바 '세금'을 내야 한다고 협박했습니다.

이런 방식으로 지난 2020년 7월부터 1년 8개월 동안
3개의 성매매 업소 운영자들부터 1천 8백여 만원을 갈취한 것으로 나타났습니다.

경찰, 성매매 업주 등 105명 추가 검거…성매수 남성 중 공무원 포함
또, 성매매 업주에게 대포폰을 공급하거나 악성 손님을대응해 주기도 했습니다.

이와 관련해 경찰은
성매매 업소 운영자와 성매매 여성 등 모두 105명도 추가 검거했습니다.

성매수를 한 남성 가운데 공무원도 포함된 것으로 알려졌습니다.

제주경찰청이조직 폭력 범죄에 대한 집중 단속을 벌인 결과
불법 행위에 가담한 조직폭력배와 성매매 관련자 등
모두 116명을 검거하고, 이 가운데 8명을 구속했습니다.

앞으로도 제주경찰청에서는 폭력조직에 대한 지속적인 단속과 체계적인 관리를 병행하고 하반기 조직 폭력 범죄 집중 단속 기간 동안 이에 대한 수사력을 집중할 예정입니다.

최근 3년 사이제주에서 각종 범죄를 저질러 검거된 조직폭력배는 170여 명. (176명)

경찰은 서민생활 침해 등 조직 폭력배의 불법 행위에 대해 적극 대처한다는 방침입니다.
