Patricide and Matricide Crimes Increase

Patricide and Matricide crimes are increasing on the island.

Data by the National Police Agency and (조은희) Cho Eun-hee, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Safety Committee, show that the number of surviving crimes increased by 46% in four years from 2,300 nationwide in 2017 to 3,400 last year.

Jeju also increased significantly to 65 last year, following 51 in 2017,
42 in 2018, and 43 in years 2019 and 2020.

This is a 50 percent increase within just one year.

Representative Cho stressed the need for increased support such as early psychiatric counseling and treatment at the government level to prevent and block future patricide and matricide crimes.



제주 존속범죄 증가…1년만에 50% 증가


제주지역에서 발생하는 존속범죄가 증가하고 있습니다.

국회 행정안전위원회 조은희 국민의힘 국회의원이 경찰청으로부터 제출받은 존속범죄 현황 자료에 따르면 지난 2017년 전국적으로 2천 300여명에서 지난해 3천 400여명으로 4년만에 46% 증가했습니다.

제주 역시 2017년 51명, 2018년 42명,
2019년과 2020년 각 43명에 이어 지난해 65명으로 크게 늘었습니다.

1년만에 50% 증가했습니다.

조 의원은 존속 범죄 예방과 차단을 위해 정부 차원의 정신과 상담이나 치료를 조기에 제공하는 등의 노력을 강조했습니다.
