Mandarins to Sell at Good Price


Jeju’s famous mandarin oranges turn a beautiful yellow-orange under the autumn sunlight.
Pickers are busy harvesting the sweet fruit.

This year’s early-ripening mandarins have been shipping since early October.
The first harvest round is still underway, with the second to be made soon - once the fruit has had another week or two to ripen.

The average sugar content of the fruit this year is above 10 Brix, about 1.2 Brix sweeter than an average year.

This year, the mandarin peels are clean and the sugar content is higher than in previous years. If good, ripe fruit is shipped, prices should be good.


According to the Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Service's survey on the quality of orchard-grown mandarins in Jeju, their average sugar content is 8.2 degrees Brix, with an acid content of 1.47 percent.+

450,000 tons of the fruit is estimated to be shipped this year, lower than during an average year.
The lower total production volume and high quality of the fruit means that prices will be set higher.

The sugar content is high compared to an average year because the weather was nice and sunny when the fruit were ripening. Total production is low, with a good sugar to acid ratio. Prices are expected to be good.

Fruit researchers are advising growers to properly test the sugar to acid ratio of their mandarins before harvest, and to keep the acid content low with proper water management, as the mandarins have both high sugar and acid content this year.

These researchers are also stressing that fruit quality should be maintained through thorough management until the last harvest is shipped, as prices can fall at any time should quality not be controlled.

외모도 깨끗한 모양이고 당도도 예년에 비해서 조금 더 좋다고 보이고 잘 익은 과일만 먼저 수확해서 보낸다면 가격은 충분히 보장받지 않을까….

농업기술원의 제주지역 노지감귤 품질조사 결과
평균 당도는 8.2브릭스, 산함량은 1.47%로
지난해보다 당도가 1.2브릭스 정도 높게 나타났습니다.

올해 노지감귤 예상생산량은 45만톤으로 적은 편입니다.

생산량이 적고 품질도 지난해보다 좋아
가격에 대한 기대가 높습니다.

당도 올리는 시기에 상당히 날씨가 좋아서 평년에 비해 굉장히 당도가 높습니다. 평년에 비해 적게 달려있고 올해 전체적으로 당산도 부분에서 품질이 높게 나타나서 가격은 높게 형성되지 않을까….

농업기술원은 올해 감귤이 당도가 높은 편이지만
산함량도 높게 나타나고 있는 만큼
수확전 당산도 검사를 철저히 하고
적절한 물관리로 산함량을 낮춰야 한다고 당부했습니다.

첫 출하 가격이 높은 편이지만
품질이 떨어지면
언제든지 하락할 수 있다며
끝까지 철저한 관리로 품질을 유지해달라고 강조했습니다.
