Farmers Now Cultivate Study Groups


They talk about pruning techniques, temperature control and water management for autumn.
They practice removing the branches that interfere with the sunlight and cutting off the young shoots that consume nutrients.
The meeting is a study group designed to build capacity for Hallabong growers.

We get together once a month to share information on pests and farming issues. The study group has been quite successful.


The research group gathers once a month to discuss new agricultural techniques and share information with each other, and develop competitiveness.
The Western-Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Service joins the meeting every two months to technically support their farming and give field training.

More than 30 Hallabong growers have gathered to study for about a decade.
Their tireless research and information sharing actually led to income growth.

The research group contributes to better quality and sweetness of Hallabong. The prices for the fruit produced from farms of the group members are set higher than other parts of the island.


In addition to the Hallabong research group, the Western-Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Service runs 18 different research societies by crop.

The service is continuously fostering the development of professional farmers through the systematic operation of the research groups and technical support.

햇빛을 방해하는 가지를 제거하고
양분을 소모하는
어린순을 잘라내는 전정 작업도 직접 해봅니다.

한라봉 재배관리 역량을 강화하기 위해 조성된
연구회입니다.

"서로 병충해라든가 이런 걸 (논의하기 위해) 계속 한 달에 한 번씩 모이니까 정보교환이 되는 거죠 이제는. 그래서 우리 농가들 수준이 (올라서) 거의 비슷합니다 지금은."

한달에 한번 모여
새로운 농업기술에 대해 논의하고
서로 정보를 공유하며 경쟁력을 키워갑니다.

농업기술원에서도 두달에 한번씩 현장에 찾아가
전문 기술보급과 재배관리 교육을 지원합니다.

오랜 시간 한라봉을 재배해온 농업인 30여 명이 모여
연구를 해온지 10여 년.

끝없는 고민을 통한 연구를 이어오다보니
실질적인 소득 향상 효과로 이어지고 있습니다.

"한라봉연구회를 함으로써 우리 품질이 다른 데보다 상당히 맛있게 생산하고 있습니다. 그래서 가격도 다른 지역보다는 좀 더 좋게 받고 있는 실정입니다."

서부농업기술센터는
한라봉 외에도 18개 작목별 농업인연구회를 운영하고 있습니다.

체계적인 운영과 기술 지원을 통한
전문농업경영인 육성에 나설 계획입니다.
