DUI and Hit-And-Run Cases Increase


The number of hit-and-run incidents caused by driving under the influence of alcohol have been increasing in Jeju each year.

According to lawmaker (용혜인) Yong Hye-in, a member of the Security and Public Administration Committee of the National Assembly and the Basic Income Party, drunk driving in hit-and-run crashes occurred in Jeju increased by 48% from 395 in 2018 to 586 the previous year.

The death toll from drunk and hit-and-run accidents also quadrupled from 3 in 2018 to 12 last year.

Lawmaker Yong stressed the need for tailored measures to be taken as the risk of accidents will increase with more tourists on the island. Yong also pointed out that more than half of the hit-and-drive rental car accidents were caused by people in their 20s.




제주 음주·뺑소니 교통사고 증가세…사망자 급증


제주지역 음주 뺑소니 교통사고가 매년 늘고 있는 것으로 나타났습니다.

국회 행정안전위원회 기본소득당 용혜인 의원에 따르면 제주에서 발생한 음주 뺑소니 교통사고는 지난 2018년 395건에서 지난해 586건으로 48% 증가했습니다.

음주 뺑소니 사고로 인한 사망자도 2018년 3명에서 지난해 12명으로 4배 급증했습니다.

용혜인 의원은 관광객 증가로 앞으로 음주 뺑소니 사고 위험이 더 커질 수 있고 특히 제주지역 렌터카 음주운전의 절반이 20대에서 발생하고 있다며 맞춤형 대책을 마련해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
