Jeju's Living Wage Below National Average


The living wage of Jeju is falling behind the national average by day and the gap continues to widen.

According to lawmaker (용혜인) Yong Hye-in, a member from National Assembly's Security and Public Administration Committee and the Basic Income Party, Jeju's living wage was the highest among 11 cities and provinces when it was first introduced back in 2017 but began to fall below the average in 2020, and the amount announced the following year was 11,075 won, 192 won lower than the national average.

In the case of Jeju, the average annual growth rate was 4.7% after 2017, while the national average was 6.8%.

The lawmaker Yong urged the need to improve Jeju's living wage in light of the nation's heightened living costs.




제주 생활임금 전국 평균 하회…격차도 커져


제주도 생활임금이 전국 시도평균보다 낮아지고 갈수록 격차도 커지고 있습니다.

국회 행정안전위원회 기본소득당 용혜인 국회의원에 따르면 2017년 도입 당시 제주도의 생활임금은 11개 시도 가운데 가장 높았으나 2020년부터 평균을 밑돌기 시작하더니 내년 고시된 금액은 1만 1천 75원으로 전국 평균보다 192원 낮은 것으로 분석됐습니다.

제주의 경우 2017년부터 연평균 4.7%의 증가율을 보인 반면 전국 시도평균은 6.8%를 보이며 대조를 보이고 있습니다.

용혜인 의원은 전국 최고 수준의 높은 물가 수준에 비춰 제주의 생활임금 개선이 시급하다고 지적했습니다.
