Disputes on Jeju 4·3 Funds Continue

Following the government’s decision to pay the first state compensation to victims of the Jeju 4·3 Incident, attention is now directed to follow-up measures.

On October 27th, the Jeju 4·3 compensation subcommittee decided to pay the first national compensation of up to 90 million won to each of the 300 victims.

However, controversy over the varied support for those suffering from disabilities remains under dispute. In fact, a member of the committee expressed his emotions on his social media account. Some committee members are hinting at the possibility of reconsideration.

While the committee committed to conduct frequent meetings and paper reviews, the final decision on whether the subcommittee will respond to the backlash is yet to be heard.
