Cézanne in Jeju


Magnificent music and lively light surround the darkened room.
The walls are filled with women bathing, card players, and Mount Sainte-Victoire in France.
These are works by Paul Cezanne, a French oil painter, often referred to as the father of modern art.

Korea's first immersive art exhibition gallery, Bunker de Lumieres, is holding its fourth exhibition, "Cezanne, The Lights of Provence,” following Gustav Klimt, Van Gogh, and Mediterranean painters.

This exhibition reinterprets works of Paul Cezanne who explored the nature of things in color and form, as media art.

It consists of a total of seven sequences, from early works to late works, so visitors can see the artist's journey vividly.

Visitors can also enjoy works of Wassily Kandinsky, the pioneer of abstraction in western art at the gallery.

It was a special and impressive experience to appreciate famous paintings in media art. The media art adds more value to the artworks I can only enjoy from books.

The Bunker de Lumieres is making efforts to establish itself as the island’s representative artistic space through this exhibition, while creating a reciprocal model through collaboration with local artists.

We are having meetings with artists currently in Jeju to hold an exhibition around next year. After that, we will further create services for visitors to enjoy artworks together with many Korean artists.

The exhibition, Cezanne, The Lights of Provence, which sheds light on the two creative artists, will continue until October 15 next year.




빛의 벙커 展…미디어아트를 만난 '폴 세잔'


웅장한 음악과 생동감 넘치는 빛이
어둠이 깔린 실내 공간을 휘감습니다.

목욕하는 여인들과 카드놀이를 하는 사람들,
그리고 프랑스에 있는 생트 빅투아르 산 등이 벽면을 가득 채웁니다.

현대 회화의 아버지로 불리는 폴 세잔의 작품들입니다.

국내 최초 몰입형 예술 전시관 빛의 벙커가
클림트, 반 고흐, 지중해 화가들에 이어
네 번째 전시 '세잔, 프로방스의 빛'을 개막했습니다.

이번 전시는 색채와 형태로
사물의 본질을 탐구한 폴 세잔의 작품을 미디어아트로 재해석했습니다.

초기 습작부터 후기 작품까지
총 7개의 시퀀스로 구성돼
작가의 여정을
생생하게 느낄 수 있습니다.

이와 함께
추상 회화의 선구자 바실리 칸딘스키의 작품도
만나볼 수 있습니다.

이렇게 명화를 미디어아트로 표현한 게 좀 색달랐고 좋은 경험이었던 것 같습니다. 사진으로만 봤던 그림들을 눈으로 볼 수 있어서 조금 더 감명 깊었고 뜻깊은 경험이 될 것 같아요.

빛의 벙커는 이번 전시로
제주 대표 문화예술공간으로 자리매김하는 한편
지역 작가와 협업을 통해 상생 모델을 만들어갈 계획입니다.

현재 제주에 계신 작가와 함께 제작 회의를 통해서 내년쯤에 (전시를) 오픈을 할 예정으로 이것을 첫 시작으로 해서 많은 한국 작가들과 감상할 수 있는 서비스들을 창출할 계획입니다.

이번 전시는
내년 10월 15일까지 이어집니다.
