After its numbers were reduced when Native-speaking assistant teachers were replaced with Korean English teachers, the numbers will be increased slightly in the upcoming year.

With an increase in the budget for the new year, the number of native-speaking assistant teachers in the upcoming year will be 129, which is an increase of nine from this year.

With high demands, plans include expanding the number of assistant English teachers, especially in rural communities.

The number of assistant teachers had dropped from 134 in 2014 to 121 last year when they were replaced by Korean teachers under the former superintendent.




도교육청, 원어민 영어 보조교사 9명 증원


내국인 교사로 대체돼 축소돼 왔던 원어민 보조교사가 내년에 소폭 늘어납니다.

제주도교육청의 새해 예산안에 따르면 내년도 원어민 보조교사는 129명으로 올해보다 9명이 늘었습니다.

교육당국은 원어민 보조교사에 대한 수요가 높아 우선 읍,면지역 희망 학교를 대상으로 보조교사 지원을 확대하기 위해 인원을 늘렸다고 밝혔습니다.

한편 지난 2014년 기준 134명이던 원어민 영어보조교사는 전임 교육감 시절 내국인 교사로 대체되면서 지난해는 121명까지 감소했습니다.
