Jeju (동자석) Dongjaseok and 55 pieces of (문인석) Mooninseok donated by the late Chairman (이건희) Lee Kun-hee to the National Museum of Korea will be permanently displayed in the outdoor garden of the Jeju National Museum.

The Dongjaseok and Mooninseok, which will be exhibited, are some of the 21,000 works donated by the bereaved family members of the late Lee Kun-hee to the National Museum of Korea in April last year.

The Jeju Dongjaseok is made of basalt and means to protect tombs and comfort souls of the dead. It provides a glimpse into Jeju’s culture from the Joseon Dynasty and holds characteristics that are distinct from other regions.

The Jeju National Museum plans to decorate the space with the theme of sandam, which can be found in tombs of Jeju, and show its works.



고 이건희 회장 기증 제주동자석·문인석 상설 전시


고 이건희 회장이 국립중앙박물관에 기증한 제주동자석과 문인석 55점이 국립제주박물관 옥외정원에 상설 전시됩니다.

이번에 전시되는 동자석과 문인석은 지난해 4월 고 이건희 회장 유족이 국립중앙박물관에 기증한 2만 1천여 점의 작품 가운데 일부입니다.

무덤을 지키고 죽은 이의 영혼을 위로하는 의미를 지닌 제주동자석은 현무암이나 화산암으로 만들어졌으며, 조선시대 제주지역의 문화를 엿볼 수 있어 다른 지역 동자석과 차별성을 갖습니다.

국립제주박물관은 제주의 무덤에서 볼 수 있는 산담을 주제로 공간을 꾸미고, 작품을 선보인다는 계획입니다.
