As Jeju's population continues to decline for 15 months in a row, the demographic cliff steepens.

According to the National Statistics Office(NSO), 313 babies were born in Jeju last September, a 7.9% decrease compared to a year prior.

The death toll was 373, down 2.6 % from a year ago, making 60 more deaths than births.


As a result, the natural decrement in the death toll being higher than births continued for 15 months.

The decrement in the province recorded 848 as of last September which was a five-fold increase from a year ago.

제주 인구가 15개월 연속 자연감소를 이어가면서 인구 절벽현상이 심화되고 있습니다.

통계청에 따르면 지난 9월 제주지역 출생아는 313명으로 지난해 같은 달과 비교해 7.9% 감소했습니다.

사망자는 1년 전과 비교해 2.6% 줄어든 373명을 기록해 출생아보다 60명 많았습니다.

이에 따라 출생아 수보다 사망자 수가 많은 자연감소 현상이 15개월째 나타났습니다.

도내 자연감소 인구는 올들어 지난 9월까지 848명으로 1년 전보다 5배 가량 크게 늘었습니다.
