Jeju-Taiwan Air Route Reopens


Tourists with large suitcases are coming out to the waiting room of the Jeju International Airport.
They are individual tourists from Taiwan who fly by direct flight.
180 Taiwanese citizens are visiting Jeju this time.

It’s the first direct flight from Chinese speaking countries since the pandemic.
The visitors look excited.

I visited Jeju with my dad 30 years ago. This time, I came to participate in an international competition for the first time in 30 years, and I’m excited.

As Taiwan has resumed its tourist visa issuance and visa-waiver program, the air route connecting Jeju and Taiwan has reopened.
It has been two years and nine months since it was suspended due to COVID-19.

Tigerair, the airline, plans to travel between Jeju and Taiwan regularly, three times a week.
Air routes between Jeju and foreign cities are expected to widen.

On the 24th of next month, T'way Air plans to launch new direct flights to Taiwan twice a week, and increase them to four times a week from next year.

More than 87,000 Taiwanese tourists visited Jeju in 2019 before COVID-19 hit the globe.

As it was the second largest number of visitors following China, the local tourism industry is expected to gain vitality with the resumption of direct flights.

Four airlines once brought Taiwanese from Taipei and Kaohsiung to Jeju before the pandemic. Taiwanese accounted for the second largest number among non-Korean visitors. The direct flights gradually wake up the foreign tourism market. We are expecting that the local tourism industry will fully recover from next year.

As regular air routes from Chinese speaking countries have been re-launched, the foreign tourism market in Jeju, which had shrunk so far, is gradually recovering to pre COVID-19 levels.




제주-대만 직항노선 재개…관광업계 '기대'


제주국제공항 대합실로 큰 짐가방을 든 관광객들이 나옵니다.

대만에서 직항노선을 이용해 제주를 찾은 개별 관광객들입니다.

이번 직항노선을 이용해 제주로 입도한 관광객은 180명.

코로나 이후 중화권 국가로는 처음으로
직항노선 운항이 재개되면서
관광객들은 설레는 표정 입니다.

30년 전에 아빠랑 제주에 놀러 왔었습니다. 이번에는 30년 만에 국제 대회에 참여하려고 제주에 왔는데 기분이 매우 좋습니다.

대만이 관광비자 발급과
무사증 제도를 정상 재개하면서
제주와 대만을 잇는 하늘길이 다시 열렸습니다.

코로나19로 중단된 지 2년 9개월 만입니다.

이에 따라 앞으로 주 3회,
정기적으로 제주와 대만을 오갈 예정입니다.

타이거 항공을 시작으로
제주와 대만을 잇는 하늘길은
더 넓어질 것으로 전망됩니다.

다음달 24일에는
티웨이 항공이 대만 직항 노선을 신규 취항해
주 2회 운항하고,
내년부터는 주 4회까지 늘릴 계획입니다.

코로나 이전인 2019년
제주를 찾은 대만 관광객은 8만 7천여 명.

중국에 이어
두 번 째로 많은 입도객 수를 보였던 만큼

직항 노선 운항 재개로 인해
제주 관광 업계에 활기를 띨 것으로 기대되고 있습니다.

대만은 한때 코로나 이전에 타이베이와 가오슝 두 개의 도시에 4개의 항공사가 (노선을) 운항할 정도로 굉장히 제주도 관광에 많은 2위를 차지할 정도의 영향력이 있었던 지역이기 때문에 해외 관광이 서서히 재개가 되고 있다, 그리고 본격적으로 내년부터 시장이 열리지 않을까 기대감을 갖고 있는 (상황입니다).

중화권 국가의 정기 노선들이 재취항하면서
그동안 움츠러들었던
제주 지역 외국인 관광시장이
코로나19 이전으로 조금씩 회복하고 있습니다.
