The controversy over including the Jeju 4·3 incident in history books has come to a conclusion at the 2022 National Board of Education committee.

The National Board of Education concluded the session with a proposal to delete learning elements and achievement criteria of Jeju 4.3, while including content that reflect the compilation criteria.

This means that the provinces’ request to at least include Jeju 4.3 in the commentary on achievement standards was denied.

Accordingly, publishers will have the right on whether to include the April 3rd incident in the new history textbooks to be applied from 2024.

교육부 제안대로 삭제하되
편찬 준거에 반영하는 내용을 담아 의결했습니다.

이는 제주 4.3을 성취기준 해설에라도 포함시켜 달라는 제주도와 제주도교육청의 요구를 수용하지 않은 겁니다.

이에 따라 오는 2024년부터 적용되는 새 역사 교과서에 제주4.3 반영 여부는 출판사 집필진의 자율에 맡겨지게 됐습니다.
