A concert hall in (구좌읍) Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, was found to have illegally expanded its hall in order to provide accommodation for migrant workers.


Jeju City detected violations of construction laws and notified the administration after conducting an on-site investigation with regards to media reports that pointed to human rights violations of migrant workers and for constructing illegal accommodation.

It has been confirmed that the concert hall has been used without permission by extending its facilities to accommodate performers' with warehouses, and offices in the lower space of the auditorium. The construction also included illegal container buildings and rain protection facilities installed outdoors.

제주시 구좌읍에 있는 한 공연장이 이주노동자 숙소 등을 불법 증축한 사실이 적발됐습니다.

제주시는 지난 10월 해당 공연장에 대한 이주노동자들의 인권침해와 숙소 불법 건축 등 언론보도와 관련해 현장조사를 벌인 결과 건축법 위반 사항을 적발하고 행정처분을 사전 통지했다고 밝혔습니다.


해당 공연장은 관람석 하부공간에 공연자 숙소와 창고, 사무실을 만들어 무단으로 사용하고 외부에도 불법 컨테이너 건축물과 비가림 시설을 설치한 것으로 확인됐습니다.
