The grasslands of Seogwipo are known to be decreasing each year.

According to Seogwipo City, survey results show that the area of grasslands in Seogwipo City was 6,820ha last year which has reduced by 149ha from the previous year.

In particular, the area of grassland has steadily decreased due to various developments. In total more than 9.3% has decreased compared to 2012, a decade ago.

The area of grasslands used illegally has also reduced to 82ha, which is down nearly 45% from the previous year.

서귀포 지역 초지가 매년 감소하고 있는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

서귀포시에 따르면 초지관리 실태를 조사한 결과 지난해 서귀포시 초지 면적은 6천820ha로 전년보다 149ha 감소했습니다.

특히 초지 면적은 각종 개발로 꾸준이 감소해 10년 전인 2012년과 비교해 9.3% 이상 사라진 것으로 분석됐습니다.

한편, 지난해 적발된 불법 초지전용 면적은 82ha로 전년보다 45% 가까이 감소한 것으로 집계됐습니다.
