Currently 4,300 Jeju roe deer have been counted to live throughout Jeju island.

These are results from a survey conducted by the World Heritage Headquarters in Jeju held for the past year. This is an increase of approximately 100 animals compared to 4,200 in the 2021 survey.

The population of Jeju roe deer has been increasing every year since it was temporarily lifted from being designated as a harmful animal back in June 2019. However the number has not reached the appropriate population of 6,100.

It is understood that this phenomenon is affected by the distribution of deer, which are competitive animals, and the gradual decrease in food supply or stable habitat compared to the past, not to mention potential threats from wild dogs.





제주 노루 4천300마리…적정 개체수에는 미달


제주 전역에 제주노루 4천 300마리가 서식하고 있는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주도 세계유산본부가 지난 한해동안 표본조사를 실시한 결과 이같이 나왔습니다.
2021년 표본조사의 4천 200마리에 비해 100마리 정도 증가했습니다.

제주노루 개체수는 2019년 6월 한시적 유해동물에서 지정 해제된 이후 해마다 증가하고 있지만 적정 서식 개체수인 6천 100마리에는 미치지 못하고 있습니다.

이같은 현상은 과거에 비해 먹이량이 풍부하거나 안정된 서식공간이 점차 감소하는데다 야생화된 개에 의해 피해, 경쟁동물인 사슴류 분포 등의 영향을 받는 것으로 파악되고 있습니다.
