Among winter migratory birds that are currently nesting in Jeju, approximately 20,000 ducks and birds are likely to spread avian influenza.

From February 17 until the 19th, the Ministry of Environment and the National Institute of Biological Resources conducted a survey on 200 major migratory bird habitats and found 38,000 birds of 185 species on Jeju island.

Among them, 19,500 ducks and 75 species were found to be highly likely to spread avian influenza.

This is a 9.6% decrease from 21,000 in the same period last year.

The Ministry of Environment is strengthening its quarantine measures centered on migratory birds to protect the island from possible spread of avian influenza in March, the time when winter migratory birds move north.




제주 서식 오리과 겨울철새 2만마리…방역 강화


현재 제주에서 둥지를 튼 겨울 철새 가운데 조류인플루엔자 전파 가능성이 높은 오리과 조류의 경우 대략 2만 마리에 이르는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

환경부와 국립생물자원관이 지난 17일부터 19일까지 전국 주요 철새도래지 200곳을 대상으로 겨울철새 서식 현황을 조사한 결과 제주의 경우 185종에 3만 8천마리에 이르는 것으로 나타났습니다.

이 가운데 조류인플루엔자 전파 가능성이 높은 오리과 조류는 75종에 1만 9천 500마리에 이르는 것으로 파악됐습니다.

지난해 같은 기간의 2만 1천여마리에 비해 9.6% 줄어든 것입니다.

환경부는 겨울철새의 북상시기인 3월까지 조류인플루엔자가 계속 발생할 수 있는 만큼 철새도래지를 중심으로 방역활동을 강화하고 있습니다.
